In mountain environments, characterized by the intense production and transport of sediments in river channels, parameters such as sediment size and shape vary according to their origin. This study investigated the hydrogeomorphological characteristics of the Nhundiaquara River basin (Serra do Mar Paranaense), aiming to characterize the lithology, size, and shape of sediments on the riverbeds. The methodology involved field surveys at four cross-sections (Mãe Catira, Ipiranga, Nhundiaquara, and Marumbi rivers), using the Wolman method for sediment counting and the Zingg technique for measuring the axes. After the fieldwork, the size and shape of the sediments were classified, and the lithological types were quantified in the drainage area of each section. The results revealed a predominance of coarse sediments, with 69.25% of the samples classified as boulders and an average D50 of 101.38 mm. Regarding shape, the compact and oblate classes were prevalent, indicating a tendency towards a spheroidal shape. Geologically, the Serra da Graciosa and Migmatitic Gneissic units were the most representative. The classification indicates that the Ipiranga River differs from the others, with larger and more compact sediments. It may be associated with the predominance of Holocene colluvial deposits immediately upstream of its section. It is concluded that the watershed exhibits typical mountain river behavior, with in situ application being effective for monitoring. It is recommended that future studies integrate factors such as bed slope and extreme events to better understand sediment transport in the region.
