Urban Renewal In Cultural Resilience: A Systematic Literature Review Using Bibliometrics

Urban renewal has grown so rapidly that it has an impact on cultural resilience. This study aims to (a) examine whether urban renewal and cultural resilience research as a subject continues to play an important role for scientific research in the future, (b) identify trends and distribution of global publications of urban renewal and cultural resilience research, (c) identify theoretical and practical implications from a future research perspective. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of 194 scientific papers related to urban renewal and cultural resilience recorded in the Scopus database in July 2025. Specifically, we analyzed the evolution of urban renewal and cultural resilience research by examining (a) published studies, (b) source titles, (c) types of sources and documents, and (d) author keywords. We further analyzed the main areas of urban renewal and cultural resilience research by looking at common subject areas, the most frequently used keywords. The findings show that the beginning of the development of this topic in 1990 consisted of only 1 document which then began to experience a significant increase from 2016 to 2024. This study found that the authors with the most publications were dominated by those from China, even though the country that contributed the most publications was the United Kingdom. Some trending topics reported included industrial heritage, urban resilience, resilience, and urban transformation, therefore the researcher recommends that further research topics related to urban renewal and cultural resilience are economic development, climate adaptation, community engagement, and sustainable development
