Silent language of the body that is care: a study in meta-analysis for a semiotic under construction

Objective: to make a diagnosis of the state of the art on the non-verbal communication in nursing studies. Methods: the methodology chosen was a meta-analysis defined as the analysis that combines and synthesizes the results of several studies. We analyzed the articles found on the Database of Nursing (BDENF) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) with a search term ";non-verbal communication."; The qualitative approach of data contributed to better understanding of the phenomenon investigated - the non-verbal communication in nursing studies. Results: the actions or body movements, the tone, body posture, the voice signals, the space between the communicators, dress and objects used, the type of body of persons involved in the communicative process and the time when the words are said or no. Conclusion: we can improve the quality of care focusing on the non-verbal communication as part of the process of caring, looking for any way decode the significant expressed during the nursing care in discovering the significant number of the patient in a coma like state in the forward.
