The co-cartography in the fight against agrochemical and for life: announcements, denunciations and the crossroads of knowledges

Abstract

In the training courses of the Campanha Permanente Contra os Agrotóxicos e pela Vida, social cartography emerges as a tool for denunciation and announcement from the territories of social movements, indigenous peoples, traditional communities, and participating militant groups. The text seeks to reflect on this practice, on how the use of the map, a colonial tool, is transformed from the self-mapping of peasants, quilombolas, indigenous people, and urban militants. The experience analyzed in this text is the workshops on social cartography held during the course that took place in Sidrolândia, Mato Grosso do Sul, in 2022, and the meeting of this diversity of subjects in mapping occurs at the crossroads of knowledge, with the intersection of various perspectives of territories but also of technical and conventional mapping knowledge, causing cartography as a social action to gain other meanings and functions. Thus, by denouncing the attacks and conflicts resulting from the use of pesticides and announcing practices of resistance and life, groups, in the appropriation of the map, share, articulate, and recognize themselves in the struggle for their territories.
