Mudanças e Permanências na Incorporação Urbana do Relevo: Um Estudo Numa Cidade Média

This article sought to discuss changes and continuities in the incorporation of relief through urbanization in a medium-sized city. To achieve this aim, an overlap was made between the cartographic record of the main urban materials and the relief units of Araraquara (SP) in different temporal scenarios between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 21st century. Such data were analyzed taking into account the way in which local relationships between urban occupation and relief occur in the different large intervals of occupation of the national territory delimited by Milton Santos – times of validity of the technical and technical-scientific-informational environment. We characterize the existence of two different predominant patterns of associations between urbanization and relief that prevailed in each of these two aforementioned large intervals. Such distinct relationships between human constructions and geomorphological heritages were interpreted as a material expression in the bases of the urban network of different types of relationships involving the insertion of technology into the territory and of the distinct predominant economic and political interests linked in each of these different times of occupation.
