Resumen

This study explores the spatial distribution and accessibility of urban green areas in Brazil’s Federal District, underscoring their pivotal role in enhancing quality of life and advancing environmental sustainability. Through the application of advanced geostatistical methods, notably the Getis-Ord Gi* statistic, the analysis reveals distinct patterns of vegetation concentration and scarcity across census tracts. Central zones, such as Plano Piloto, exhibit abundant green coverage and ease of access—outcomes of deliberate urban design—whereas peripheral areas like Ceilândia and Samambaia show limited vegetation and greater distances to green spaces, reflecting entrenched socio-environmental disparities. These spatial inequities mirror broader socioeconomic divides, with restricted access to green infrastructure adversely impacting the well-being of marginalized populations. The findings highlight the imperative for integrated public policies that promote the expansion and preservation of green areas in underserved regions, thereby improving urban microclimates, public health, and social cohesion. A holistic approach, bridging ecological, social, and urban planning perspectives, is essential to foster a more just and resilient urban future.
