This article seeks contribute for definition of the duration of the rainy season and verification of the occurrence of dry spells in the Jequitinhonha river basin, in the portion of the state of Minas Gerais. It’s believed that a better understanding of thematic can subsidize initiatives of planning of use of natural resources in the region. These areas represent satisfactorily compartments landscaped distinct of the Jequitinhonha river basin. The results indicate important specificities of the climate in the three locations in relation the temporal distribution of precipitation, especially on the beginning and end of the rainy season and it’s duration. Moreover, those are subject to frequent dry spells of intensities relatively strongs, which are often harmful to agricultural activities and other uses of water resources that require delimitation of periods when the climate is the limiting factor.
