This article aims to discuss the concept of poverty as an instrument of analysis for literary studies. In the first part, it undertakes an interdisciplinary theoretical discussion, in which the concept of poverty isunderstood as a multidimensional phenomenon, to be differentiated based on intersectional and identity positions. The concept proves to be especially fruitful for literary studies, as it reveals something about symbolic practices and the production of meaning. To illustrate its potential, the article analyzes Catalin Dorian Florescu’s novel Jacob beschließt zu lieben(2011), problematizing the strategies of meaning management, in the context of poverty.References
