Memories of the Terreiro: preservation of the Tambor de Mina in the poem “Toiá Verequête”, by Bruno de Menezes

This study aims to analyze the poem “Toiá Verequête”, present in the book Batuque, by Bruno de Menezes, as a literary writing that preserved the afro-brazilian religion Tambor de Mina and underground memories. To do this, it uses studies on Memory (Candau, 2016; Assmann, 2011; Pollak, 1989), Religious Sciences (Ferretti, 1996; Luca, 2010; Valcacio, 2022) and Afro-brazilian literature (Duarte, 2010), using Comparative Literature as a method (Carvalhal, 1991). By interpreting the poem, which narrates the incorporation of the Toia Verequete in the priestesses of the afro-brazilian cult, we realize that it is an Afro-brazilian literature that preserves the Tambor de Mina and memories.
