This manuscript develops an analysis of the work The enigma of metaphor: philosophy, pragmatics, cognitive science (Springer, 2024) by Stefana Garello. It presents the transdisciplinary examination the author conducts of metaphor in philosophy, pragmatics, and cognitive sciences, synthesizing the historical trajectory from Aristotle to contemporary debates on conceptual metaphor theory and relevance theory. Garello’s central argument is underscored: metaphor is not a natural and homogeneous category, but rather a theoretical construct and an unstable phenomenon.
