Abstract

This article examines the distribution of support services for women victims of violence within Pernambuco's urban network, focusing on the relationship between accessibility, territorial inequalities, and social vulnerability. Using 2023 domestic violence data and information on specialized public facilities, such as police stations and support centers, the study highlights disparities in service provision, revealing a concentration in the Recife Metropolitan Region and significant gaps in the state's Sertão region. The analysis is grounded in Feminist Geographies and categories such as gender and intersectionality, demonstrating how socio-spatial factors perpetuate violence and hinder the breaking of oppression cycles. This discussion underscores the urgent need for public policies that address regional specificities and promote spatial justice, ensuring equitable access to services for all women, regardless of their location.

Author Biographies

Mariana Rabêlo Valença, Universidade de Pernambuco - Campus Mata Norte

She holds a Bachelor's degree in Geography from the Federal University of Pernambuco (2009) and a Full Degree from the University of Pernambuco (2008). She holds a Master's degree in Development and Environment from the Federal University of Pernambuco (2013) and a PhD from the Postgraduate Program in Geography at the Federal University of Paraíba (2018). She is an adjunct professor on the Geography course at UPE, Mata Norte Campus, with experience in teaching, research and extension. She works on the following subjects: urbanization, medium-sized cities, urban network dynamics, the spatial dimension of gender and sexuality issues and Geography Teaching. She is currently the coordinator of UPE's Social Diversities and Identities Center, a supplementary body of the rectory; Manager of the Internalization Division of the Dean of Extension and Culture and coordinates the HUB SESC Social Technologies innovation project, in partnership with SESC Pernambuco.
