Re-learning names for yourself: Édouard Glissant, Patrick Chamoiseau and Junot Díaz, Warriors of the Imaginary

This paper explores the influence of Caribbean thought, particularly the ideas of Edouard Glissant and Patrick Chamoiseau, on Junot Díaz's The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. The analysis investigates how the concepts of Creolization and Oraliture, developed by Glissant and Chamoiseau, structure Díaz’s aesthetic and political choices, contributing to his decolonial project. Thus, the paper argues that Caribbean thought is central to understanding the structure and message of Díaz’s novel, consolidating its significance in contemporary literature.
